SQL Server Sand Box with SharePoint 2007

I would like to know what is a SQL Server sandBox. We dont have access to SQL Server and we use Microsoft Access as database. My question is if we get permissions to use sand box can we use it as a database? we are using MOSS so how will it help us from moving from access database to sql server sandbox?
