I'm very frustrated, either Windows 8 and/or SQL 2014 have been nothing but trouble since I installed them. First, there is the known problem that you can't register a server from SSMS 2014 if you are running on a ultra high resolution monitor, which I've read has yet to be fixed.
Then, I tried exporting my registered servers from my 2008r2 machine, and importing them on my 2014 machine. Upon doing that, every time I would start SSMS it would start and then shut right back down (with no messages). So, that's clearly a bug. I got past that by cleaning all the imported entries out of the registry. Things were okay for several weeks.
But, now, all of the sudden, I can start SSMS, but as soon as I try to connect to any server, it again shuts down with no message. This can be the local server, a remote one, doesn't matter.
The following gets logged in the event viewer when this happens:
Application: Ssms.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an internal error in the .NET Runtime at IP 6155E60B (61460000) with exit code 80131506.
I really need resolution to this, as I'm dead in the water in being able to support clients. I saw some older threads with similar problems on shut down (not on connect like me) and it said to reinstall SSMS, but you can't remove just that component and if I try to reinstall, all of the current installed options are checked and greyed out.
