Not finding tables for new db. Where are they?

Coming from the MS VS forum. Received some great help, but the issue now involves more SQL than VS. Here's my situation and the problem.

My new laptop has Win 8.1.  I have already downloaded VS2013 CE and have been learning it.

On my 8.1 laptop, I was able to connect to the SQL localdb and created "MyFirstDB".  I added three very small tables. I know that they exist b/c when I go into VS and select Tools/Connect to Database/Microsoft SQL Server Database File and browse to the folder where I saved them, they are there. I know that they are .sql files and not a db file, but at least I know that they do exist.
The problem is that they do not appear in the VS Object Explorer.   The db "MyFirstDB" appears, but there are no tables listed under it. Where are the tables? Why do they not appear?   Is it possible I saved the tables some place else than with the db?

In the VS SQL Server Object Explorer tab, "MyFirstDB" is under Databases, which is under (localdb)\ProjectsV12\(SQL Server 12.0.2000-MyLaptop\Bill          But like I mentioned, the tables do not appear.

I did a search through File Explorer and found that the DB is located at:   C:\Users\Bill\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio

I followed the above path and then remembered the following article:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlexpress/archive/2011/10/28/localdb-where-is-my-database.aspx

The article says:
"In the end we decided to create the database files in the root of the user profile. On most machines it is located in C:\Users\user-name folder."   When I go into C\Users\Bill I find the db, but when I try to open it, I'm told that I do not have Windows Office and if I want to try or buy it.  I have VS and some level of SQL, why would I need Office?

Should I use SQL Management Studio to work with my db and tables? It seems to me that VS should handle that process of accessing the db and tables, which it did for creating the db and tables initially.

Maybe I should delete the db and tables and just start over? I have very little time invested, but I would like to know where I went wrong.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bill
