Can you please confirm, if a SQL Server 2008 R2 environment only requires one server license, even if the underlying hardware was designed as a master/slave configuration in order to beef up the hardware performance? (having a total for 4 Physical Host Sockets)
There is only one instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 presented to clients, so we are assuming that it would only consume one server license. The server was built long before the per CPU license model was introduced by Microsoft and the enterprise edition of SQL Server 2008 R2 was applied as per Server and CAL licensing model.
