Deploy SQL Server on a container

Dear all,

with the release of Windows Server 2016 I 'm currently learning about how to design our services on a micro services design pattern. As I'm working as a system engineer, most applications I need to install are provided "as is" and delivered by a third party. So I cannot redesign app services itself, like the developers may do. While I can still design IIS websites, I'm currently struggeling about SQL Server deployed with a Windows Server Container oder Docker Container for a HA infrastructure.

As far as I understood, I cannot run SQL Server availability groups or always-on clusters, as that required the OS to restart, and I cannot do that from a Windows native oder Docker container. So if I do not want to deploy SQL Server as a single server instance, I still need to go outside the world of containers and deliver SQL functionality the old way, installing it on a WSFC and then putting all HA stuff on that.

Is that corrent? How do you deploy SQL Servers, based on docker / Windows containers / on-premise Service Fabric? Unfortunately, I found only a guide for deploying SQL Server Express on a container, but that is not the way I desire it to be (no HA for my database).

Can you please redirect me to some architecture information on how to do that? please provide some RTFM links. If there is any MS statement on "it's not possible to run it like that" I also appreciate that response with a link to a KB / blog article.
My question is currently limited to the Windows platform; but as we have a SQL Server preview available on Linux, if the response is different, please let me know, too.

I appreciate your response! many thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Martin Gudel
