We are trying to determine if the Basic Availability Groups in SQL 2016 Std will be adequate for the requirements of our SQL project. We have downloaded and installed the Evaluation version of SQL 2016. However, this only gives us the option of full blown AGs. As we are new to AGs, I am hesitant to try to mimic Basic AG functionality within the Eval version for fear of missing something and not getting a true representation of its behavior. Is there a way to Eval basic AGs?
If not, may I suggest you come up with a way to do this. Folks trying to use AGs in Std are most likely going to be new to AGs (coming off of SQL 2012 Std, not Ent). For people in this situation, the existing eval is pretty much useless.
