database design thoughts - people and companies

Hi all,

Would you put people and companies into the same database table, or would you rather create separate tables for this purpose?

People are identified by document (that can contain letters), while companies are identified by organization id (unique number). Also people have date of birth, while companies have date of beginning work. Other columns are mostly the same, like contact information.

Please advise.

Thanks for your consideration.
