Backup hangs when we select "Verfify Backup When Finished" Option ?

Hi,

We have selected the option "Verify Backup When Finished" during backup of SQL Server 2008 Database (Size around 100GB).

It takes around 40 minutes for the backup to complete and then go to the verification stage.  However, it stuck at 0% (It has been at this stage for more than 10 minutes).

When we stop the action, we find that the BAK file is gone.

Just would like to seek your advice

1) From my understanding, it usually doesn't take long for Verify Backup.  Is it correct OR it takes similar length of time for backup ?

2) Should we select "Verify Backup When Finished" ?
